The project

From keeping animals to documenting what I learn.

AquaTerraLife grew from a long-standing interest in amphibians, reptiles and naturalistic animal husbandry. Over the years, keeping and breeding different species has produced observations, photographs, videos and practical experience that are worth documenting and sharing.

What began primarily as video documentation has gradually developed into a broader project. This website brings together species information, husbandry and breeding experience, practical guides, videos and independently developed apps.

Careful observation is central to understanding animals. Long-term husbandry can reveal individual behaviour, preferences and interactions that are easily missed in brief encounters.

Experiences become more useful when they are documented. Species accounts combine practical observations with information from published sources while keeping the distinction between them clear.

Behind AquaTerraLife

Hi, I'm Nils.

AquaTerraLife is a personal project that brings together several of my interests: biology, herpetology, animal husbandry and software development.

My background in biology shapes how I approach the natural-history side of the project, while many of the husbandry and breeding observations presented here come from years of keeping animals myself.

I also develop the apps presented under AquaTerraLife, using software as another way to turn ideas and interests into practical projects.
